Went to a going-away party for Kat, one of the STINTers who's been here for two years and is hanging around until Passion World Tour is over (next weekend). I'm sortof taking over her role on several campuses, and it was really strange being at the party. Really awesome, though, to see the group of men and women that she has challenged to live for Jesus Christ. Keep praying for us to be effective sharers of the gospel.
Mexicans keep giving me a "are you sure you want that much salsa - that stuff is hot" line. I keep wanting to say, "DUDE! I'm from TEXAS. We eat hot food in Texas." Instead, I just hold my tongue, eat my salsa, and enjoy the looks of "wow that gringo is tough." I think other cultures have the impression that Americans eat a bunch of really bland food (this happened in N Africa, too) - maybe it's because they eat at McDonald's and think "man, that was nothing special."
You guys can pray that we'll be excellent learners of this culture - that we'll ask questions instead of making assumptions, go out on culinary limbs, and generally try to fit in here as best our bright white skin will let us.
