favorite

I talked to Israel yesterday as we gulped soda driving through crazy Mexican traffic looking for a chair for my desk. He asked me what my favorite book of the bible was, and I had a little trouble responding. It depends on my mood, how well I'm trusting God, and how well I'm able to pay attention. I must have read David's story fifty times in the past five years, I love the Psalms between 82 and 90, and I keep wandering back to the letters to the church in Corinth.
I asked Israel what his favorite book was, and he said "Numbers." I laughed, but he proceeded to explain: Numbers is the story of God telling his people where to go, them going in a different direction, and him pursuing them anyway ... again and again and again. We can learn a lot from Numbers. I think I can learn a lot from Israel.
Praise God for friends that read and love scripture because it points us to God.
Special note: I got a chair.
