sleek

Today was (also) a blast. This morning we brewed some local coffee and used a paper towel to filter off the grinds – no coffee filters at this stop – for some downright tasty coffee. I went out to the docks to lust after the magnificent boats. I especially like the long, sleek sailboats with multiple jibs and a rear end (stern?) that comes out of the water. The owners of my favorite boat walked up as I was peering inside so I got to chat with them briefly. It was a little awkward, like reading the comics on someone's dorm door when they open it to go to class.

We rented cycles to tour the island, and I discovered that I'm not in any way fit enough to hop on a bike and start doing hills – even at sea level. I did manage to make the trip to the beach and back to town, but I felt a little closer to passing out than I'm normally comfortable feeling. I think cycling could be a lot of fun if I stuck with it, but it remains to be seen what my backside has to say. The little spike of a seat was not overly comfortable.

We rode in a boat this afternoon to go find killer whales feeding on the salmon near shore. We saw a bunch of whales swimming around, blowing spouts of water and chasing salmon. I'm glad I don't have to swim in the open water. Yet.

Having patience today and yesterday has been a whole lot better – God is cool like that.

My backside says, "Please find another sport, or I will make all sedentary activity absolutely unbearable."
